Oceanography and Marine Biology: An Annual Review remains one of the most cited sources in marine science and oceanography. The ever-increasing interest in work in oceanography and marine biology and its relevance to global environmental issues, especially global climate change and its impacts, creates a demand for authoritative refereed reviews summarizing and synthesizing the results of recent research. For more than 50 years, OMBAR has been an...

CO2 absorption into a binary solvent system was studied using a batch‐mode gas/liquid absorption apparatus. The binary system composed of potassium carbonate (K2CO3) and piperazine (PZ) showed a strong synergistic effect, whereby the binary solvent performed better than either of the individual solvents for CO2 absorption. The other pairs of solvents tested (K2CO3/monoethanolamine (MEA) and K2CO3/NaOH) showed no synergistic effects. The results...

This chapter highlighted recent advances in beamforming based on finite-rate feedback from
a communication-theoretic perspective. We first studied the SER performance of the finite-rate
beamforming system. In a Rayleigh fading environment, an upper bound on the average SER
was derived, which has a simple structure and is tight at all SNRs. Secondly, feedback error
problem in a finite-rate beamforming system was investigated. The effect of feedback...

Improving Spectrum Sensing Performance by Exploiting Multiuser Diversity
In multichannel cognitive radio networks, the licensed wireless spectrum consists of a set of
N non-overlapping channels. Secondary users have the ability to access all of the available
channels by switching frequencies. Multichannel cognitive radio networks have been studied in (Jiang et al., 2008; 2009; Kim & Giannakis, 2009; Min & Shin, 2008). For example, in (Jiang
et al.,...

The use of the cold spray system for the formation of the coatings has the potential to overcome all the drawbacks which are induced by the conventional thermal spray technologies. Moreover, the Laser Assisted Cold Spray is a novel process, for the pretreatment of the substrate and the coatings build-up, which may lead to the production of advanced coatings of high adhesion and cohesion strength. Nowadays, the adhesion of cold sprayed coatings is...

Hydrocarbon fluid inclusions occur in a variety of geological environments, most commonly
within carbonate rocks from petroliferous sedimentary (Stasiuk & Snowdon,1997). Oil-gas
inclusions (OGIs) belong to hydrocarbon inclusions. The sizes of OGIs are usually in the range
of 5-20m. A micro-mass (ng-fg) palaeo-oils were trapped in a single OGI. The interaction
between OGIs and outside is relative weak although a long geological age elapsing. The OGI
can...

Agronomic effects of SSB application to soils, therefore, widely vary depending on physicochemical properties of the sewage sludge, pyrolysis temperature, and soil properties, which need to be further clarified including the heavy metal dynamics in order for the SSB application to be broadly accepted in agricultural and horticultural practices. Therefore, objectives of this study were to 1) investigate the leachability of heavy metals, particularly...

Damping inter-area oscillation by using a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) wind turbine is considered. The PMSG wind turbine is connected to the IEEE-30 bus power system at different buses. H-infinity design controller is proposed to modulate the power where the input of the H-infinity control is the variation of the local grid generator speed and the output is feedback to activate the PMSG speed control, blade pitch angle control and...

Organic farming is an agricultural practice that raises plants especially vegetables and fruits without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, or plant growth regulators. All over the world, the interest for organic farming has increased recently. Different greenhouse experiments were carried out in the northern Jordan Valley, to compare the effect of four fermented organic matter doses (1.5, 3.0, 4.5, and 6.0 kg m-2), or different...

Four low-cost organic soil amendments (chicken manure, CM; horse manure, HM; yard water, YW; and sewage sludge, SS) that are generated daily in large amounts, and native bare soil were planted with tomato (Solanum lycopersicum var. Mountain spring) seedlings of 52 days old in raised black plastic-mulch. Each of the 5 treatments was also mixed with biochar to make a total of 10 treatments in a randomized complete block design (RCBD). Results revealed...

The Internet lets us share perfect copies of our work with a worldwide audience at virtually no cost. We take advantage of this revolutionary opportunity when we make our work "open access": digital, online, free of charge and free of most copyright and licensing restrictions. Open access is made possible by the Internet and copyright-holder consent, and many authors, musicians, filmmakers and other creators who depend on royalties are understandably...

Fine Grained Alumina-Based Ceramics Produced Using Magnetic Pulsed Compaction.
The aim of the work is to fabricate alumina-based ceramics with high wear resistance. It is
achieved by the usage of weakly aggregated nanopowders and by the application of
magnetic-pulsed compaction as well as by the addition of titania, magnesia and zirconia

Starch is one of the most studied natural polymers due to its widespread and applications as well as to the global interest regarding renewable, cheap, and easy to process resources. The native form of starch is frequently subjected to different processing methods in order to modify its structure and thus to obtain some functional properties suitable in specific industrial applications. Radiation-based method is a “green tool” for modification...

The development of an organic/inorganic composite insulating material is essential in designing insulating films for the enameled wires used extensively in microelectronics. This paper reports on various studies in the preparation of effective polymer/silica (known as PAI or polyamide/imide) composite films. Results indicate that cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) plays an important role in the preparation of silica/PAI composite film. Thermal...

1. Introduction
The commercial proliferation of cellular voice and data service has placed a new challenge for mobile communication systems. Next-generation wireless systems are envisioned to have an all-IP-based infrastructure with the support of heterogeneous access technologies (Akyildiz et al., 2004). Under the circumstance, the Internet Protocol (IP) is selected as the common interconnection protocol to integrate disparate wireless...

Multi-user MIMO in LTE and LTE-Advanced - Receiver Structure and Precoding Design
We have looked at the feasibility of the multi-user MIMO for future
wireless systems which are characterized by low-level quantization of CSIT. We have
shown that multi-user MIMO can deliver its promised gains if the UEs resort to intelligent
detection rather than the sub-optimal single-user detection. To this end, we have proposed
a low-complexity interference-aware...

Nowadays, the consumers’ global demand for healthier diets is steadily increasing, and the development of novel functional ingredients has become a focus of the food industry. On the other hand, the accumulation of huge amounts of food wastes every year has led to environmental degradation and especially to significant loss of valuable material that could otherwise be exploited as new health-promoting ingredients, fuels and a great variety of additives....
