[synopsis] => Sgt. Trey Reynolds, who struggles to reacclimate into life back at home after returning from war overseas, decides to leave his hometown of Pittsburgh and head down to Galveston, Texas, where his fondest memories as a kid occurred before his parents divorced. Missing one leg because of his last mission, he still tries to take on a job renovating a run-down 100-year-old home. But in a drunken state one night, he easily trips and falls causing him to miraculously find an old diary hidden away since the year of 1900.

Sister Margaret, one of the newest nuns from Europe, travels to an assignment in Texas, a place she had been told was still considered the Wild West. She is consumed with past regrets and secrets and wonders if that is why God no longer speaks to her. Still, she works hard to care for children orphaned in Galveston by the rampant Yellow Fever virus.

To find solace, Sister Margaret begins to write in a diary that she hides in a tenant's house further inland and away from the orphanage. One day, she opens the diary to write down her thoughts and becomes distraught when she sees someone has written back to her. This person, with the odd name of Trey Reynolds, is a man she later learns is not from her time but from the year of 2000.

As Sister Margaret and Trey decide to trust in fate and finally share their struggles with each other, they begin to heal. Trey, wishing to continue this relationship with the woman he is falling for, decides to purchase the house where the anomaly has occurred in hopes that the correspondence can continue. However, he discovers that Sister Margaret's time in his life will be cut short. Her death is documented to occur only two weeks later. In a race to stop history from occurring how it's written, he experiences and learns so much more than he could have ever imagined possible.
